Cookie Policy

Draft — pending legal review. This is a good-faith description of the cookies Marco Map actually sets.

Effective date: 2026-04-23 (draft)

Cookies we set

Cookie namePurposeDurationSet by
jwtAuthenticated session token. Verified on every protected request.Session (cleared on logout)Marco Map (LB4 auth backend)
agent_keyOptional API-key cookie used by automated testing agents to bypass login. Not set for regular users.SessionMarco Map (internal tooling only)

Both cookies are HttpOnly and Secure. Neither is shared with third parties.

Cookies we do not set

  • Advertising or marketing cookies
  • Third-party analytics cookies (no Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Segment, etc.)
  • Cross-site tracking identifiers
  • Social-sharing widget cookies

Local storage

Marco Map uses localStorage (not cookies) for client-side preferences:

  • Sidebar expanded/collapsed state
  • Active broadband filter settings (served/underserved thresholds, selected technologies)
  • Remembered basemap and legend customizations
  • Session-local UI state (last visited tab, search history preview)

These never leave your browser.

Your choices

  • Blocking cookies: You can block all cookies in your browser. Marco Map requires jwt to authenticate; blocking it means you'll be signed out on every page load.
  • Clearing cookies: Signs you out. No other effect.
  • Disabling localStorage: The dashboard will still load but your preferences won't persist between visits.

EU / UK visitors

Because Marco Map does not set advertising or third-party tracking cookies, we do not display a cookie consent banner. The cookies we set are "strictly necessary" for providing the authenticated service under GDPR Article 6(1)(b) and the UK PECR "strictly necessary" exemption.

Changes

Material changes will be announced on /changelog and reflected in the Effective date above.
